As Halloween approaches, the scary sounds of the holiday fill the air; ghosts and goblins decorate doorways, and the chill of the approaching winter is in the air.
But the truly frightening part of this holiday are the eerie, creepy voices that clutter our airwaves, trying to scare us, trying to capitalize on our fears during an election campaign that has reached a level of frenzy.
As the radical right works overtime, pouring untraceable mounds of cash to fuel the scary banter, there is no doubt that there is a new monster in our midst this Halloween.
The headless horseman? Frankenstein's Monster? Dracula?
No. Who walks among us living now is the soulless, all-powerful corporation. Not quite human, but, thanks to the U.S. Supreme Court, possessing some of the same powers that we the people enjoy. But this hungry, emotionless monster has no compassion; only greed; it seeks self-perpetuation and power. It is ruthless. It is barbarous. And no stake through the heart will stop it.
Now that is really scary.
